What is EXIF metadata?
EXIF is information a camera or phone writes inside the image file next to the pixels: the make and model, lens, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, the date and time, and — when location services were on — the GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken. PNG and WebP files can carry the same block, and many editors add XMP, IPTC and a colour profile on top. This viewer reads all of it in your browser, so the image never leaves your device.
How to use it
- Choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP image — original files from a camera or phone show the most
- The privacy scan and the metadata summary appear first; every tag is listed by section below
- Use the quick filters or the search box to find a tag, or copy / export everything as text
- To share the photo without its hidden data, press “Remove Metadata & Download”
Common questions
Does this tool show my photo's GPS location if it has one?
Yes, if the file has GPS data — common for phone photos taken with location services on. It shows the coordinates and a link to open them on a map. This is exactly why sharing an original photo can reveal where you live or work, and why the “Remove Metadata” button is there.
Why does an edited or screenshotted image show no EXIF data?
Screenshots never had camera data, and many editors, messaging apps and social networks strip it when they re-save or compress an image. A file that shows only its size and format here was most likely processed that way.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and cleaned entirely inside your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
Will the cleaned copy look different from the original?
No. Only the metadata blocks are removed; the image data is copied byte for byte, so there is no quality loss. For a phone photo, the rotation flag is kept so it does not suddenly appear sideways.
What does the privacy scan check?
It looks for the things that can identify you or place you somewhere: GPS location, the date and time, the camera model, device or serial numbers, and author or owner names. “Found” means that kind of data is present in the file; the highlighted rows below show exactly where.
I have a whole folder of photos to clean — do I have to do them one by one?
No. This viewer is for inspecting one image in detail. To remove GPS, EXIF and other metadata from many photos at once and download them as a ZIP, use the Image Metadata Remover.
