Free tools that don’t ask for your files

Khohari is a set of PDF, image, finance, health, math and everyday utility tools that run inside your browser. There is nothing to install, no account to make and nothing to pay.

What this site is

Most of us only reach for these tools once in a while. You need to merge two PDFs for a form, squeeze a photo under a size limit, or find out what a loan will really cost. The usual options are an app to install, an account to create, or a website that wants your documents uploaded to a server you know nothing about first.

Khohari is a fourth option: open the page, do the job, close the tab. There are 153 tools at the moment, in six groups.

How it works, and why that matters

When you choose a file in one of the PDF or image tools, your browser reads it from your own device and does the work there. The file is not sent to us or to anyone else. The calculators are the same: the numbers you type stay in the page.

You don’t have to take our word for it. Open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network tab, run a tool and look at what leaves your machine. Your file isn’t in it.

A few features do need the network for something other than your document. The currency converter fetches exchange rates, the OCR tool downloads its text-recognition engine the first time you use it, and the option to draw your signature on your phone sets up a link between your two devices. None of these carry your document. The privacy policy lists every one of them.

What we try to hold ourselves to

  • No account, no paywall. Every tool works the moment you open it.
  • Honest about limits. If a tool only does part of a job, the page says so. The Word, Excel and PowerPoint converters pull out the text and don’t rebuild the layout, and PDF to Word gives you the words, not the formatting. You should know that before you start, not after.
  • Your device does the work, so we tell you what that means. Very large files can be slow, especially on a phone, and the size limits are stated up front. See the FAQ.
  • Built for phones as well. A lot of people only have a phone, so the tools are laid out to be used with a thumb as well as a mouse.
  • Show the working. Most calculators explain the formula behind the number, so you can sanity-check a result instead of trusting it blindly.

How it’s paid for

Khohari is an independent project, and the tools are free to use. Nothing sits behind a paywall. The site is supported by advertising and by people who decide to chip in through the “Support us” link in the footer. If you’d rather not, that is completely fine. Use the tools as much as you like.

Ads don’t change how your files are handled. The tools still run on your device, and we never pass your files, or what you type into a tool, to advertisers. The privacy policy explains what ad networks can collect, and the cookies page explains the cookies involved.

Tell us what’s missing

If there is a tool you keep wishing existed, or one that gets in your way, we want to hear about it. Small, specific notes are the most useful: which tool, what you were trying to do, what happened instead.

Get in touch, report a bug, or read the guides if you’d like to see how some of the tools are meant to be used.
