Median and mode, with mean and range alongside

Enter a list of numbers and get the median and mode front and centre, with mean and range shown too — the frequency table makes it clear when there's more than one mode, or none at all.

How to use

  1. Enter your numbers separated by commas, spaces or line breaks
  2. Press Calculate
  3. Switch which figure leads (median, mode, mean or range) using the toggle

Common questions

What happens if my data has two values tied for the most frequent?

Both are reported as modes, and the data is described as bimodal (or multimodal for more than two). If every value in the list appears exactly the same number of times, the tool reports that there's no mode at all, rather than picking one arbitrarily.

Why might the mean and median be very different for the same data?

The mean is pulled toward any unusually large or small value in the list, since every number contributes to the total. The median only looks at position in the sorted list, so it barely reacts to extreme values — a big gap between the two is a sign the data is skewed.
