How this works
This is useful when a site or app you're uploading to doesn't accept WebP — the image is re-encoded as JPEG, which loses WebP's transparency support (if the source had any) since JPEG can't store it, filling transparent areas with white instead.
Common questions
Why would I need to convert WebP back to JPG?
Some older platforms, email clients or software still don't accept WebP uploads — converting to JPG, the most universally supported format, sidesteps that compatibility issue.
Does converting lose quality?
Both formats are commonly used at lossy settings, so re-encoding from one lossy format to another can compound some quality loss — it's usually minor at high quality settings, but not literally lossless.
